The Holocaust and War Victims Tracing Center is a national clearinghouse from the American Red Cross designed to help people find the fate of persons missing as a result of the Holocaust. The Center will accept cases to trace persons separated in Europe between 1933 and 1957 as a result of Nazi actions. There is no charge for this service.

The National Gravesite Locator is part of the Veterans Administration web site. The public can access the records for veterans buried at 120 cemeteries since the Civil War. This is a great site for locating information on deceased individuals who have received Social Security benefits. Information includes birth and death date, Social Security number, residence at the time of the final benefit, and location where the orginal application was processed. You can also request a copy of the individual's original Social Security application for a fee which includes additional important information such as the person's address at the time of application, parent's names, and employer.

The Soundex system is the means established by the National Archives to index the U.S. censuses (beginning with 1880). It codes together surnames of the same and similar sounds but of variant spellings. Soundexes are arranged by state, Soundex code of the surname, and given name. Soundex codes begin with the first letter of the surname followed by a three-digit code that represents the (first three) remaining consonants. This site comes from the BYU-Idaho Family History Center. You can search by the name of the groom or bride. Information available in the records include the names of the bride and groom, the county of record, the place of the marriage, and the date of the marriage. Pre-1900 marriages are included for Arizona, Idaho, and Nevada. There are also records for marriages from the early 1900s for those states as well as Utah, Wyoming, eastern Washington, eastern Oregon, western Colorado, and some California counties.
